GREEN PAPER: PREPARATORY WORK REPORTS

4.6. Special Group on Cooperation between Europe, the Mediterranean and Atlantic areas, and the developing countries in the field of public service media

Recently in the Mediterranean area, the United States, Latin America and various other developing areas, there has been much close attention to the reform of public service media and the various models adopted in Europe in the transition from traditional radio and television broadcasting to the new services of the society of information.

A greater degree of media cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic but also with other continents can have an emblematic value for public bodies that are often ra ther prone to confusion in the areas of planning, organization and funding.

In June 2014 at Palermo the Turin Workgroup intends to present its own report on this issue during a seminar open to other academics and experts associat ed with the work of the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators ( COPEAM) and the Ibero-American Inter- university Group, also with the involvement of the representatives of European (EBU), Arabian (ASBU) and American (OTI) public broadcasting associations, together with UNESCO and possibly other international institutions.

This Sixth Report of the Turin Workgroup should then be presented at a Third Euro-Mediterranean-American Conference intended to be held in Madrid in collaboration with the Complutense University in November 2014 on the theme of public service media in the global market of on-line information . It will pay particular attention to the collaboration between broadcasters and new public media on both sides of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean and with countries in the developing world.
